*Aura* is a short novel that tells the story of Felipe Montero, a young historian hired by Doña Consuelo, the widow of General Llorente, to organize and complete the memoirs of her late husband. The condition is that he must live in her house, a mysterious place shrouded in darkness to avoid the memory of the general.
In this house, Felipe meets Aura, an enigmatic young woman and Doña Consuelo's niece, who is responsible for helping the elderly woman with household chores, and to whom Felipe feels a particular attraction. The strange relationship between the elderly woman and the young woman leads him to suspect that the old woman is holding her prisoner. Consequently, Felipe feels compelled to free her.
Later, however, he discovers that Aura's dependence on Doña Consuelo goes far beyond what he could have imagined.
